A note about when it really starts here

Summer ’23 update

As most people have figured out by now, this blog is still surprisingly quiet. Although I have chosen as a a sort of subtitle for the site, that I want to know how the world works (with or without Mathematics), the fact is that I mainly write about other things. About all the hurdles I have to take, my mindset, how to learn, what data is, and so on.

So far I haven’t picked up a subject to dive deep into it and make a clear explainer. The reason is twofold. On the one hand, I have a busy life with a full-time job, a family with young children, a house under renovation, and another 1800 things that I hardly get around to.

The second reason is that I still have a lot to learn and discover myself before I can produce something decent. Besides updating my math skills and knowledge, and in a way learning it completely, there is also a lot to learn about other things.

  • How do you tell a clear story in a good way?
  • What is interesting for my reader and what is not?
  • Which level should I start?
  • How can I visualize abstract things?
  • How can I make things interactive?

For example, I am currently studying dipping my toes in learning Manim 1An Open Source visualisation tool in Python, created by 3blue1brown. Apart from the program itself, it also involves peripheral matters that I have to learn. Like in this case Python and how to make a good visualisation.

A kind of domino effect.

The consequences are simply that it will take a while before there is something decent to read on this blog. At least in terms of a real ready-made explainer. I plan to continue sharing my experiences and work along the way. So how do I learn math and what exactly? Or how I’m bumbling in Data Science and trying to figure out certain tools.

Latest updates

Changes on the website

So much for the more general updates. Time for real concrete changes.

  1. The links remain at the bottom of the article The links remain at the bottom of the articles because many experienced it as pleasant and peaceful. I understand that it’s not great for SEO, but I’ll just take that for granted.
  2. There is still a Dutch version A number of people asked me about the Dutch version of the website. It still exists, but to be honest, I don’t know for how long. It’s not feasible to translate everything all the time, mainly because I don’t have much time. For now, it is still online and everything can be read in Dutch. I’m just not going to update it anymore.
  3. Plus Sometime in the near future I will be launching a membership as a way to support me. I have expressed this wish before. The website is free and I want to keep it that way. To be able to invest time and energy in the projects, I am therefore looking for ways to support myself. Memberships seems like a good solution.

So much for my summer update. First I’m going on vacation. Camping by the sea. Nothing but beach, sea, birds, and a good book. Delicious!

Have a nice holiday and see you next time!
